Clinical features
Acne excoriée is a subset of excoriation disorder (see above) in which the picking is directed at acne lesions. The underlying acne is often mild but accompanied by extensive excoriations that may lead to scarring (Fig. 7.7).
Treatment
Treatment includes comprehensive therapy for the underlying acne (see Ch. 36) together with management of the obsessive–compulsive component and other psychological aspects as described above for excoriation disorder. Recurrence of even mild acne may be accompanied by resumption of picking unless the associated psychologic disorder is addressed.
