RUBBER CHEMICALS
Rubber accelerators are important causes of hand dermatitis caused by gloves, particularly in healthcare workers. Allergens include thiurams, carbamates, mercaptobenzothiazole and its derivatives, and thioureas. Of note, there is some evidence of declining frequencies of reactions to rubber accelerators. ACD to rubber may coexist with an immediate hypersensitivity to natural rubber latex protein (see Ch. 16).
