PROGNOSIS
Most patients with chronic urticaria can expect to benefit symptomatically from treatment, but the prognosis for complete remission has probably changed little from that in a survey done over 50 years ago, which identified that 50% of patients attending a tertiary referral center with wheals alone were clear within a year, but that 20% with wheals and angioedema continued to have symptoms 20 years from the time of onset. A mean duration of disease of slightly over six years has been reported.
