Temporal Triangular Alopecia
Temporal triangular alopecia (congenital triangular alopecia) presents as a hairless patch in the temporal region of the scalp (unilateral or bilateral). It may be present at birth or appear during the first decade of life. The alopecia is usually in the shape of a triangle, but oval and other shapes can be seen (Fig. 69.15). Trichoscopy shows very thin and vellus hairs within the entire patch. The alopecia is usually permanent.
