BENIGN LESIONS
A wide variety of benign lesions can be found in the anogenital area (Table 73.4). Some of the more important lesions are discussed below.
Epidermoid Cysts
Epidermoid cysts are frequently encountered on the glabrous labia majora and scrotum, and may be multiple. They are yellow, vary in size, and may become inflamed. Treatment is by excision, but this is only necessary if the cyst is symptomatic.
Vestibular Papillomatosis
Papillomas within the vestibule are found in ~45% of premenopausal women and 10% of postmenopausal women. They are pink, asymptomatic, fine projections. Women should be reassured that the finding is normal.
