Miscellaneous Dermatoses
Primary cutaneous mucinoses have been linked to HIV, especially localized papular variants of lichen myxedematosus in men with advanced HIV disease. Granuloma annulare may present with generalized lesions or other atypical distribution patterns (e.g. a photodistribution). Both remission after ART and worsening as a manifestation of IRIS have been described. Major aphthae presenting as large, painful, destructive oral lesions can also occur in people with HIV disease. Infective or neoplastic processes should be excluded, and severe cases may require treatment with systemic corticosteroids, thalidomide, or ART. Linear telangiectasias on the chest have been reported in individuals with HIV infection, mostly in MSM.
