HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH
The field of health services research applies techniques of epidemiologic investigation to assess the association between health services provided in the community and disease outcomes. Outcomes for this kind of research include traditional endpoints such as mortality and morbidity, as well as others such as usage and access, patient satisfaction, quality of life, and disability measures. In addition to the efficacy of an intervention in an ideal, controlled environment, it is important to assess effectiveness in real life situations (e.g. with factors that decrease adherence; Table 123.9) and efficiency (e.g. costโ:โbenefit ratio).
