FUTURE TRENDS
Modern radiotherapy has entered a new and exciting era. Accurate conformal radiotherapy is being delivered via sophisticated three-dimensional CT-based planning and treatment systems. Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) is allowing tumor doses to escalate and normal tissue doses to decrease. The integration of MRI and functional imaging such as positron emission tomography (PET) into planning systems further enhances the accurate delivery of radiotherapy as may reflectance confocal microscopy.
