Menkes Disease (Female Carriers)

Menkes disease, an X-linked recessive disorder caused by dysfunction of a Cu+-transporting ATPase (ฮฑ-polypeptide), is discussed in Ch. 69. Female carriers may have patchy pili torti and hypopigmentation along the lines of Blaschko, attributable to functional mosaicism for cells with abnormal copper metabolism.
